Assignment Two - Television

Will You Accept This Rose?

Each spring brings forth another season of love on ABC. You know, the type of love where you are forced to date 47 women at once, the love we all long for. Thats right, you guessed it, each Spring brings forth a new season of the Bachelor. The Bachelor is an American television reality dating show that has been a hit since it premiered in 2002. Bachelor nation, the community that makes it all happen, has transformed from on simple dating show into 5 successful ways to find love, but the Bachelor reigns supreme as the original. Each season a new suitor is picked to make his selection from the hundreds of women who apply to make an appearance on the show in hopes of stealing the bachelors heart, and eventually walking away with an engagement.

The bachelor usually opens with the lucky guy standing in front of a grand mansion awaiting his potential wives to pull up in their limos. One by one the ladies step out and have a few seconds to make an impression on the bachelor before the head inside for a prolonged cocktail party. The bachelor then holds a rose ceremony where he selects all but a few women to move on to the next week where dates are taken place in hopes connections will be made. For weeks the bachelor and the contestants laugh, cry and fall in love in the most beautiful places you could think of, all while swimming in the drama that comes with the show.

This season, season 25, our Bachelor is the handsome Matt James, never before seen contestant on his journey to find love. He had a record number of women apply to be a contestant on his season, and a record number of women participate. What does this mean? More drama. Matt has already had to deal with manipulation, lying, and girls leaving the show because the process was "too much" and were only four weeks in. Through the next 5 weeks Matt will continue to take contestants on dates in hope to fall deep enough in love that he proposes to one in the end. Because, you know, it's easy enough to commit to marriage in nine weeks. Among the pandemic, the Bachelor franchise did a great job of keeping all contestants safe from the coronavirus. With a required two week quarantine and testing, the show goes on.   While bachelor nation is used to the contestants traveling all around the world to go on luxurious dates, season 25 will be held all within the 2,200 acres of the Nemacolin resort in Pennsylvania.

All in all this show is incredible. Theres laughs, theres cries, theres champagne up noses. What more could anyone want out of a television series. In my opinion the bachelor offers women an opportunity to swoon and fantasize about love and men an opportunity to laugh at the women, it's a win win for everyone. Whether you're single and brooding over the bachelor, laughing with friends, or making bets on who will win with your significant other, you can't not love this show. ABC made a dating show for people all ages to enjoy, and we do just that.
