Assignment Five - Movie

A Fight to See

There is a certain feeling of being a kid again every time you walk into a movie theater. The sound of your tickets tearing at the door, the smell of popcorn, and the feeling of a cold, dark theater. Nothing beats that feeling, but we haven't felt it in a while. Due to the closure of movie theaters following the coronavirus outbreak, many of us our clothing onto the memory of our last or greatest movie theater experience. Well, let me tell you mine. Creed in 2015, need I say more? I am not a sensitive person, but this movie left me in tears at the end, and still does to this day every time I watch it. This sport/drama film houses action and romance all tied up into one beautiful success story.

Creed opens to tell the story of an up and coming boxer, trying to live up to his father, Apollo Creed. Michael B. Jordan stars as the lead, Adonis Johnson, son of Apollo. Adonis pulled former heavyweight champion, Rocky Balboa out of retirement to train him to be the best and to fight the best. All while training for his fights and struggling with the emotions of it all, Adonis falls for his downstairs neighbor and attempts to woo her as the movie tracks on. Rocky deals with his battle with cancer while Bianca, Adonis's girlfriend pushes her singing career. It seems that everyone reaches peak stress at the same time, but come together as a family when it matters most. The movie ends in a way that no one would've thought, but I won't spoil that for you.

How the creators of this film pushed that much information into one two hour movie, and made it all make sense still stuns me to this day. Each time I watch this movie I am riding a rollercoaster of emotions.
